Steve Gadd has got to be one of the best examples of a professional drummer still around today. He plays the part humbly with solid timing and groove, and knows that when it’s his time to shine on the band stand he can then let loose. At Play Drums By Ear, I try to encourage my students to learn to play a solid beat before they try fills and solos. It’s important to provide a solid foundation for the band before you fill up the rest of it. Steve has played, performed and recorded with the best names in the music business and has shared his time and talent with drummers all around the world. I hope you enjoy these two videos I came across featuring the impeccable drummer, Steve Gadd.
This was the first time I came across the Gadd Gang. It’s a group of great musicians Steve performed with in his band then got together to play in a band together. Here’s their take on the Stevie Wonder classic, “Signed, Sealed Delivered,” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dF75iRgAiw.
Steve Gadd can be seen in this next video playing some classic Gadd licks with a stellar jazz group. Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vz_snIa1sE.
I hope you enjoyed these awesome videos with Steve Gadd on the drums. He is a great example to study and learn from as he is one of the most popular session and live drummers available. There’s more coming your way from Play Drums By Ear so stay tuned.
Thanks,
Chris

“Signed, Sealed Delivered, I’m Your’s”: Love that song… Jazz Group sounded really exciting to.
