Billy Cobham has been regarded as jazz fusion’s most precise and energetic drummer. Cobham gained this acclaim by performing with jazz musicians like Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, George Duke, and his own groups. Cobham performs open handed with his cymbals in groups on either side of the drum set. Since he plays with his left hand as lead, it’s interesting to see him fill on his toms in both directions. It’s a little hard to describe without watching him play, but you’ll be able to see what I’m talking about in the videos I shared below. Cobham performs as a technically proficient and diverse player in the two videos I shared below. I hope you enjoyed the videos as much as I did!
Billy Cobham performs in a more recent video with a masterful fusion group of musicians. Cobham gets the Latin groove down in this video performance at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teIB0gUtAQM.
In the next video, Cobham performs with the famous jazz, funk and fusion keyboard player, George Duke. The trio kills it in this video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2ikhatPxNE.
Billy Cobham is a diverse, precise and energetic drummer straight from an era of jazz fusion music when it was at its best. I hope you enjoyed these videos, because Billy Cobham is still one of the best drummers out there.
Thanks,
Chris

Fabulous and inspirational drumming by Billy. Makes me want to practice even harder than I do now. It’ll take me while but I’ll get there. Thanks for the videos. Great to watch and learn from.

Wow! I saw him in ’71 with mahavishnu orchestra and in the 90’s with Jazz Is Dead and he keeps getting better. Chris, thank you for theses videos,
