I wanted to take a trip back in time to feature some of the great on screen entertainers in show biz. One of the popular forms of entertainment, and a personal favorite, was the drum and tap dance duos. That was back when the actors had a variety of talents on screen. I found two great videos that feature some of this kind of entertainment featuring tap dancers Sammy Davis Jr. and Eleanor Powell with some of the drumming greats including Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Johnny Mendoza, King Errison, and Jack Sperling. I hope you enjoy watching the videos as much as I did!

I’d like to start off with a classic from Sammy Davis Jr. He traded fours with a slue of great drummers at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gIivSW7Ca8.

Another one of the great tap dancers was Eleanor Powell. And who better to accompany one of the best dancers of the world than one of the best drummers of the world, Buddy Rich. Check out this performance at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6R8InADno6o.

These were some great entertainers and it was so much fun seeing drumming in the spotlight. There’s more coming your way at Play Drums By Ear, so stay tuned.

Thanks,

Chris
