Here at Play Drums By Ear, I love introducing you to drummers you may not have heard of before, and offering videos and lessons from them that you can enjoy and use in your own playing. Playing the drums is like any other instrument, as there is a lot to learn from other drummers’ playing styles and beats. The more we can immerse ourselves in different music styles, learning of some of the early pioneers behind the kit, and modern drummers who are making big waves in the industry, the more versatile we can become in our own playing. Benny Greb is one of these drummers that I’ve been checking into quite a bit myself because he has been able to mesh technical drumming with “feel” drumming very well. I hope you dig these videos from Benny, learn something you can take home to your kit, and look into for even more inspiration.

I thought it would be cool to start off seeing Benny in action. Check out this drum solo at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvBRTHxsXCw.

Now let’s learn a little bit from Benny about improvisation on the kit. Here he is with a great lesson about fully understanding what you play on a kit at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XI2aHSBTnU.

Okay, this one’s just for fun. Somebody caught Benny playing on a kid’s Spongebob drum kit. Check it out here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pckE_VNU9MQ.

Lastly, here’s another lesson from Benny. This time he explains using the cross stick with the hi hats to create a whole new sound. Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-lJYHiJv9g.

I hope you enjoyed hearing from Benny Greb. He’s a great drummer, who focuses first on the groove no matter what he’s playing. There’s more coming your way at Play Drums By Ear, so stay tuned.

Thanks,

Chris
