Jamming And Drumming With QuestLove Of The Roots

QuestLove is the backbone of the Roots, with his rock solid beats. Photo courtesy of Wikipedia.org

QuestLove and the Roots are on the top of their game, having been nominated for a Grammy and secured the position of house band for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.  QuestLove, or Ahmir Khalib Thompson, has been drumming since he was kid on tour with his parents.  Needless to say, music runs through his veins and he seems to have taken full advantage of it.  QuestLove is not only the drummer for the Roots, but is a music producer, journalist and DJ.  This guy stays busy.  I wanted to feature QuestLove because he can play a money beat.  90% of what he does on stage behind the kit is supply the heavy beat needed to support the rest of the band.  I think you’ll enjoy the money beat variations as played by the great QuestLove!

The only time you can really see QuestLove take a solo is live on stage.  See him in action here at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4Z4eQXalk8.

Next, QuestLove got together with a long list of heavy hitters including D’Angelo at Bonnaroo for a super jam.  The band plays the Funkadellic classic song, “Hit It And Quit It,” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTu80O_vkc8.

Lastly, QuestLove was found shopping at Ameoba Records in Los Angeles and included in a series called “What’s In My Bag?”  Get a sneak peek at who QuestLove listens to at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CrcLoIPzow&feature=related.

QuestLove and the Roots are great to check out and offer cool variations of the Money Beat in action.  I hope you enjoyed this post and got a little more information about the drums.

Thanks,

Chris
