Buddy Miles’ resume was filled with powerful players. Buddy played with Jimi Hendrix and the Band of Gypsys, he played with heavy cats like Carlos Santana, and even recorded several of his own albums. One of the many things that impresses me most about Buddy Miles is that he didn’t just play the drums. He was a superstar drummer, could sing with the best of them including Jimi Hendrix, and even shredded some guitar with Carlos Santana. Buddy was a powerhouse on stage and always entertaining to watch. I collected a few videos from Buddy Miles’ music history that I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

I have to start with his time with Jimi Hendrix; really there’s no other way to start a post about Buddy Miles. He wrote, played, sang and recorded the song, “Them Changes,” with Jimi. Check out the audio now at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYp5NtkpCAA.

Buddy Miles sang as well as he played the drums. And what’s even more impressive was how well he sung while playing the drums. Enjoy a live performance of Buddy singing the blues with one of the greatest blues guitarists around, Buddy Guy, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdSGFQ-VRm0.

Lastly, Buddy Miles recorded and toured with his own projects as well. In this next clip he’s singing but not playing the drums. With a groove this deep though, I couldn’t keep it out. Check out “Runaway” now at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WanF1fMic8w.

I hope you enjoyed all this great content from drummer/singer/guitarist/songwriter Buddy Miles. I’m sure there were probably more tricks up as sleeve as well. There’s more coming your way at Play Drums By Ear so stay tuned.

Thanks,

Chris

Always like to hear the drums in a song. Drummer’s need to be seen and featured more, in bands…
