Steve Gadd’s drum beat on “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover” is very cool and famous. Photo courtesy of Wikipedia.org

One of the coolest and hippest drum beats is the intro to Paul Simon’s famous song, “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.”  Steve Gadd struck gold with this beat, since even though it isn’t a straight “money beat” people can still groove along to it and it fits well with the song.  I thought it would be cool to not only hear the original intro beat but listen to Gadd slow it down and play it piece by piece.  Pick up a pair of sticks and see if you can play along to the great drum beat of the song, “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.”

I figured it would be cool to start off with a live performance of the classic Paul Simon tune, “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.”  Steve Gadd created this great beat that can be heard here at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91euERWH2M4.

Steve Gadd slows down the beat in this short drum lesson and breaks it up for us all to see and pick up on.  Pick up a pair of sticks and try to play the beat along with Gadd at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZZLLYEzKE8.

I hope you enjoyed this cool drum lesson from Steve Gadd.  It’s a very good beat to learn, not only if the song is called on stage, but it can inspire you to think outside the box when it comes to creating drum beats.

Thanks,

Chris
