Big Band Swing Drumming With Duffy Jackson

Jazz drummer, Duffy Jackson, has a rich history in his music career.

Duffy Jackson has had an impressive music career as a drummer for many of the best names in jazz music including Count Basie, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald among many others. And one of the great things about this drummer is that he is the son of famous jazz bassist Chubby Jackson. Due to his father’s prominence in the jazz music scene, it was pretty easy for Duffy to be introduced to some heavy jazz cats and start playing shows at an early age. I collected a couple of video performances and an interview with Duffy Jackson about his rich music history and his life performing with some of the best names in jazz music. I hope you enjoy it all as much as I did!

Duffy Jackson is seen in this first video telling his story how he sees it. There have been a lot of great moments in his music career and it’s exciting to hear about all of them. Check out the interview at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoCHTqQrp9c.

In the next video, Duffy is seen with the famous Count Basie Orchestra. It’s fun to see just how well he fits into the group, and he’s also pretty fun to watch as well. See his performance at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmrfTvmhqG4.

Lastly, Duffy Jackson played a show with the great Lionel Hampton and his orchestra. Here’s a rare drum battle between the two famous jazz drummers at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-u2U_-4-y8.

I hope you enjoyed hearing from Duff Jackson as much as I did. He’s a pretty amazing jazz drummer with a lot of great stories about some of the best names in jazz music history. There’s more coming your way from Play Drums By Ear so stay tuned.

Thanks,

Chris
