Bernard Purdie Explains Ghost Notes In The Drum Groove

Bernard Purdie is one of the most celebrated session drummers in the music industry.

Bernard Purdie is one of the most recorded and celebrated drummers in the music industry.  I came across a series of videos that Purdie created, explaining some aspects of his drumming style as he learned more and more about it.  Bernard Purdie is known for the Purdie Shuffle, which famous drummers like Steve Gadd, Jeff Porcaro, and John Bonham utilized in some of their well known drum grooves.  I found a video from Bernard Purdie that explains how he was first introduced to ghost notes and open/closed Hi Hat tricks.  Purdie is as much fun to watch as he is to listen to, so I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did!

The subtle use of ghost notes is one of the things that separates experienced drummers from amateurs.  Have fun and try to experiment with ghost notes in your own drum beats!

Thanks,

Chris
